World Tourism Day.
In my case, I can talk a little about what I know best, NATURE TOURISM, according to Wikipedia: “This movement appeared in the late 1980s, and has already managed to attract enough interest internationally, to the point that the UN dedicated the year 2002 to ecological tourism.”
My experience dates back to the early 1990s, following in the footsteps of Faustino R. Q., who I consider a pioneer in the province of Cadiz, with his Viajes Karacol project, which became Viajes Alventus, which is now a national benchmark for nature trips around the world. Shortly afterwards, a group of friends from the Sierra del Pinar Mountaineering Club set up Oikos, a project that I joined. It was an interesting experience that I will always remember. Other projects followed, but without success. There was no legislation, awareness or market, but they were the first steps with their corresponding failures. That is how you learn when you are a pioneer.
Things have evolved; those initiatives were not viable. Today, the so-called “active tourism companies” have their place, although it is small, but they cover a demand that has been growing and consolidating.
